Gallery show by John Bucklin, Daniel Phill, Richard Taylor
SFMOMA Artists Gallery
Through Oct 22ndA fourth-generation Californian, John Bucklin is an avid surfer, outdoorsman, and artist. Bucklin trains his eye on ocean waves, snow-covered forests, and close-ups of domestic swimming pools.
San Francisco–based painter Daniel Phill merges the abstract and the representational in his acrylic paintings, which often suggest organic forms such as flowers. Phill emphasizes the quality of his materials, his animated process, and his characteristic fluid application of paint.
Richard Taylor presents wall-mounted painted aluminum sculptures that reflect the rhythms of music and poetry. Like pieces of a puzzle or musical notations on the staff, his forms draw attention to the relationships among elements as well as the impact of color on the viewer.
