JANUARY 2005
Cowell Theater
Move over Cannes, France theres a new film festival
to attend on a different riviera. The second annual San Francisco
Ocean Film Festival (SFOFF) returns to the Cowell and other
venues at the end of January. This lively event celebrates
the joy, power, and mystery of the sea with documentary and
short films from around the world.
The first SFOFF premiered in 2004 to rave reviews. Festival
organizers seek to inspire, educate, and entertain marine
enthusiasts with screenings and stimulating discussions. Festival
topics range from oceanography to saltwater sports and coastal
cultures shaped by the sea.
Audiences can expect to be thrilled by the beauty of exotic
undersea creatures and the nautical adventures of intrepid
seafaring explorers. From giant tsunami waves to elusive geoduck
clams, the festival has something to interest all.
SFOFF works with other organizations that also share a passion
for the ocean. SFOFF participants view the sea as earths
last frontier, which shelters vital ecosystems and aquatic
resources needing protection. SFOFF partners include the SF
National Maritime Historical Park, the Marine Mammal Center,
Gulf of the Farallones National Marine Sanctuary, and the
Golden Gate Yacht Club.
Explore the many aspects of ocean life at a unique film festival.
