JANUARY
2005
Cowell Theater
The Cowell Theater got its start in the 1980s and now that
decade makes a comeback at the Cowell in mid-January. Back
To the 80s is the theme for Cotillion 2005, the 22nd annual
social event for the San Francisco Bay Areas transgender
community. Trans Gender San Francisco (TGSF) sponsors the
cotillion, which features skits, performances, and costumes
inspired by 80s music, movies, and TV programs.
TGSF invites all community members, including first-time
participants, to attend this glittering affair. Previous cotillions
have attracted visitors from Southern California and neighboring
states as well. A panel of six judges from the gay, lesbian,
bisexual, and transgender (GLBT) community selects Mr. and
Miss TGSF during the event. A star-studded celebrity cast
adds glamour and style to the show.
Master of ceremonies Lenny Broberg, winner of the 1992 International
Mr. Leather competition, is an officer with the SF police
department. TGSF president and cotillion writer and director
Roxy Carmichael-Hart is also on stage, along with Bobby Cheung
(Mr. TGSF 2004) and Anne Louise Mortenson (Miss TGSF 2004).
Entertainers include guitarist Lisah Aubergine, CJ Khing,
Sara Dreaming, and the Viridian Crown Countess TamEva Eshlaina
Von Frankenstein.
In addition to the cotillion, TGSF hosts many social and
support events for the transgender community and participates
in the SF and San Jose Pride parades. TGSF works to unify
GLBT groups and offers education and outreach activities,
including seminars, lectures, and an advice hotline. Refer
