Landmark Buildings A, B & C & Herbst & Festival Pavilions
There's still time to find the perfect gifts and decorations for the holidays and Fort Mason Center (FMC) offers one-stop shopping for all your holiday needs. In December, FMC has an indoor tree lot, a holiday card-making workshop, and artists' receptions and sales of beautiful handmade items, photographs, jewelry, and more.
Guardsmen Christmas Tree Lot
A fragrant indoor forest sprouts in the Festival Pavilion during December, courtesy of The Guardsmen. The Christmas Tree Lot is one of many projects the venerable San Francisco service organization uses to raise funds to help at-risk youth. Hundreds of lovely trees in many shapes, sizes, and varieties add holiday spirit to FMC. The Guardsmen also sell ornaments and wreaths and offer tree ordering and delivery services. The tree lot is free and open December 2-21 from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. daily. Contact the Guardsmen at (415) 771-7747 or go to www.sftreelot.com and www.guardsmen.org for more information.

Making Holiday Cards
The San Francisco Children's Art Center (SFCAC) is an FMC resident group that teaches children about art and encourages creativity. For the holidays, SFCAC has a special treat for families — a holiday card-making workshop on Sunday, December 7, from 10:00 a.m. to Noon in Building C. Parents, caregivers, and kids work together to create cards with stencils, stamps, collage, printmaking, and other materials and techniques. SFCAC teachers are on hand to guide the creative process. Snacks, beverages, and music contribute to a festive, informal atmosphere of holiday fun. The workshop costs $25 for each adult/child pair, and $10 for each additional child. Reserve space at (415) 771-0292 and visit www.childrensartcenter.org for more information.
Krista Sheldon Holiday Sale
Award-winning artist Krista Sheldon invites all to her free annual holiday show and open studio in Building C, Friday through Sunday, December 12–14, from 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Highlights of the show include a new "Trees of Gold" collection of original paintings. Giclée-on-canvas reproductions are also available. Sheldon uses mixed media techniques to create her outstanding work — combining acrylics, oils, watercolors, gold leaf, and hand-carved woodblock printed images.
"My objective is to revive the elegance reminiscent of the murals and frescoes found in Knossos, Crete, Greece, and Pompeii, Italy," said Sheldon.
She builds layers of different media in each piece to achieve added depth and dimension. Contact the artist at (415) 474-2845 or www.kristasheldon.com.
