2023 California Preservation Conference: Placekeeping / Placemaking

The California Preservation Foundation brings the 2023 California Preservation Conference: Placekeeping / Placemaking to Fort Mason Center For Arts & Culture (FMCAC). The conference highlights the latest research and scholarship in historic preservation, city planning, equity issues, design, archaeology, and architecture. Registration for the conference and the exhibitors hall are located in the FMCAC historic Storehouse space in Building D.

Conference tours and events take place along the San Francisco waterfront on Wednesday, April 19, 2023, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. On Thursday and Friday, April 20 and 21, 2023, many sessions happen in FMCAC’s historic meeting rooms, the Cowell Theater, and The Storehouse. Special off-site tours and sessions also occur at the San Francisco Presidio, Pier 70, and Power Station A along the waterfront. Additional online conference programming ($190) happens Wednesday and Thursday, April 26 and 27, 2023, from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Special conference events include the opening reception on Wednesday, April 19, 2023, at the Maritime Museum (a historic Art Deco Streamline Moderne bathhouse at San Francisco’s Aquatic Park) near FMCAC; the President’s Circle Reception for major donors and sponsors on Thursday, April 20, 2023 at FMCAC; the 2023 California Preservation Awards Reception and Ceremony on Thursday, April 20, 2023 in the Cowell Theater and Pier 2 at FMCAC; and the Closing Reception on Friday, April 21, 2023 at The Storehouse and the Off The Grid food truck gathering at FMCAC. A variety of other ticketed special events, including a wine tasting with food pairings, a historic concrete and terrazzo preservation workshop, and more, are also available for purchase.
