Through Apr 23rd

At Last Theatre’s premiere production “Dominion” presents the interwoven stories of women living in strict religious households, and features an original score performed live by a string trio.

The play centers on a young woman named Esther who arrives at a village to become the third wife of the prophet Hammon. Esther struggles to adjust to life with Hammon’s other two wives: a contentious opponent Mara and the more peaceful Rachel. During this time at a nearby farm, a widowed woman named Ella grapples with the anxiety of losing her only son Jubal, while also contending with the unwelcome advances of a powerful community member. Jubal and Esther defy the strict religious conventions and ignite a series of disruptive events that rock the foundations of the religious settlement and threaten to destabilize its core beliefs and values.

The “Dominion” performance occurs in in the Young Performers Theatre space, Building C, third floor at Fort Mason Center for Arts & Culture; and proceeds from “Pay-What-You-Can” tickets for the preview performances on Friday and Saturday, April 1 and 2 benefit Theatre Bay Area’s Mary Mason Lemonade Fund.
