Embark Gallery presents “Laughter And Tears,” a showcase of 11 artists using humor and play to inspire critical thinking about social and political events at Fort Mason Center For Arts & Culture. San Francisco State University (SFSU) Master of Fine Arts (MFA) candidates Natasha Loewy and Kristen Wong curate the exhibit, after winning Embark’s call for curatorial candidates.

Participating artists are: Brian Bartz (University of California–Berkeley, UCB), Calum Craik (SFSU), Ricki Dwyer (UCB), Zoe Eagan-Gardner (California College of the Arts, CCA), Neil Griess (Stanford University), Becca Imrich (CCA), Nathan Kosta (San Francisco State University, SFSU), Heesoo Kwan (UCB), Leslie Samson-Tabakin (SFSU), Hannah Tuck (SFSU), and Yileng Zeng (San Francisco Art Institute, SFAI).

“Laughter And Tears” opening reception features Heesoo Kwan’s  7:30 p.m. performance, Genius Of Leymosoom. Kwan and six believers of his feminist religion, Leymosoom, have collaborated on the piece, which includes performances by Alvaro Azcarraga, Yujin Hwang, Gen Kasaneiwa, Michelle Kim, Ran Kurumazuka, Heesoo Kwan, and Reniel Del Rosario.

The opening reception takes place on Friday, February 8, 2019, from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
