Fieldnotes For Useful Light: Tamara Suarez Porras

Presented By

Embark Gallery

Embark Gallery’s second annual “R+D Projects” exhibit features the photography of Tamara Suarez Porras in “Fieldnotes For Useful Light” at Fort Mason Center for Arts & Culture. Porras has created a poetic photographic exploration of San Francisco’s Prelinger Library, which archives image-intensive 19th- and 20th-century historical ephemera.

Porras started her photographic survey at Prelinger in order to explore photometry, the measurement of light. However, as she pursued her investigation of objects in the library’s secret shadows, her project evolved into a meditation on light as an expression of time and space. The exhibit includes an ambient, two-channel sound installation by Sei Harris.

The opening reception takes place on Saturday, June 16, 2018, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
