FOR-SITE presents Black Gold: Stories Untold, a new exhibition at the Fort Point National Historic Site, on view from June 6, 2025 to November 2, 2025. The exhibition is free and open to the public.

Black Gold: Stories Untold brings together 17 contemporary artists and collectives to reflect on the resilience, struggles, and triumphs of African Americans who lived in California from the Gold Rush to the Reconstruction period following the Civil War (c. 1849–1877). Discover more information and stories about the artists and the exhibition at FOR-SITE’s exhibition pages.

Black Gold was inspired in part by Gold Chains: The Hidden History Of Slavery In California, a public education campaign produced by the ACLU of Northern California, one of FOR-SITE’s community partners. The exhibition is presented in partnership with the Golden Gate National Parks Conservancy.

The Public Opening Celebration Day for Black Gold: Stories Untold takes place on Saturday, June 7, 2025, 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the Fort Point National Historic Site and includes artist talks, music, and performances. No registration is needed. More information is available here
