Grandeur

Magic Theatre

Through Jun 25th

Magic Theatre welcomes MacArthur genius grant-winner Han Ong back after a 25-year absence with the world premiere of Grandeur, a play about shape-shifting music legend Gil Scott-Heron. Acclaimed local actor Carl Lumbly plays the enigmatic Gil Scott-Heron, a musician, poet, blues, jazz, soul, and spoken word performer whose work commented on social and political issues.

Han Ong’s innovative play imagines a meeting between a young, ambitious music journalist and the feisty Gil Scott-Heron. Grandeur addresses questions of legacy, art, hope, and redemption in a gut-wrenching exchange between youth and experience.

Please Note: The Saturday, June 17, 2017,  8:00 p.m. performance has been cancelled and the Thursday, June 22, 8:00 p.m. performance is cancelled.
