Knock, Or the Triumph of Medicine

Presented By

Generation Theatre

Through Sep 18th

Generation Theatre returns to Fort Mason Center for Arts & Culture with a stirring revival of Jules Romains’ acclaimed 1923 satirical play “Knock, Or the Triumph of Medicine.” “Knock” presents the medical profession as primarily a money-making business in the early 20th century, rather than a true calling to help those in  need.

The title character, Dr. Knock, has been compared to Nosferatu the vampire because he feeds on the medical fears of his community, instead of trying to treat patients who are truly ill. Knock needs to build up his physician practice by adding more patients and he is willing to do so by any means necessary, even if the rural population he cares for is generally in excellent health.
