Ohana Arts presents the San Francisco premier of audience favorite Peace On Your Wings, an uplifting musical performance, at Fort Mason Center for Arts & Culture. Inspired by the life of 12-year-old war victim Sadako Sasaki, Peace On Your Wings combines real-life and fictional elements to tell Sasaki’s amazing story.

The musical features true events from Sasaki’s life, which ended tragically in November 1955 when she died from leukemia caused by radiation from the atomic bomb dropped on Hiroshima, Japan near the end of World War II. However, before her death, Sasaki earned world fame by folding 1,000 origami paper cranes to fulfill an ancient Japanese legend that granted one wish to anyone who folded 1,000 cranes. Sasaki’s story launched an international movement to fold cranes for peace.

Peace On Your Wings includes a fictional story about Sasaki’s friends who gather support from throughout Japan to build a monument in memory of her life and to honor young victims of atomic bomb attacks. This groundbreaking musical premiered in Oahu in 2014, has received many awards, and has toured with sold-out shows in Los Angeles and New York.
