Salento By 5: Friendship, Food, Music & Travel Within The Heel of Italy’s Boot

Presented By

Museo Italo Americano

Jul 30th @ 4:30 p.m.

Join five friends who love to explore and blog about it at a book launch with the Museo Italo Americano for their new collaborative effort, Salento By 5, at Fort Mason Center for Arts & Culture. Published by Gemelli Press, Salento By 5 reflects the creative efforts of three Italians living in the Puglia region and two American travelers who bonded over their love of the Salento area in the far southern reaches of Puglia. The group of five have spent more than 10 years exploring the coastal settings of Salento and have made the area come alive for others with their wonderful collection of essays, stories, recipes, memories, and drawings.

Each member of the group contributes a different aspect to Salento By 5. American Audrey Fielding contributes essays and editing skills, while her husband David Fielding created the delightful sketches found throughout the book. Local raconteur Luciana Cacciatore writes about her family, the land, and the past and present of Salento. U.S. expatriate Carlo Longo, lead singer, songwriter, and musician of Bluesalento, provides the musical ambiance for the book. Lucia Erriquez teaches in the Solento town of Gallipoli and is an accomplished cook who crafts her edible treats in Taviano.

The event also features Salento pizzica music, wine tastings, and photographs, drawings, and notecards depicting the Salento area. Space for this event is limited. Please register online or RSVP in advance to (415) 673-2200 or info@SFMuseo.org.
