For Summer 2018, the San Francisco Art Institute (SFAI) | Fort Mason Campus offers great art courses for the public at Fort Mason Center for Arts & Culture. Held on evenings and weekends, these painting courses are perfect for beginners or more advanced students and are taught by experienced artists, all SFAI graduates.

The Magic Of Painting. Wednesdays, June 6, 2018 to August  15, 2018, 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. (no class July 4, 2018). Taught by proficient painter and artist Ingrid V. Wells, this 10-week technical oil painting course shares best practices about glazing, lighting, edging,  and three-dimensional techniques. Recommended for intermediate to advanced painters. $480 (Meets in Studio 26, SFAI | Fort Mason Campus.)

Introduction To Painting. Thursdays, June 7, 2018 to August  16, 2018, 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. (no class July 5, 2018). Multimedia artist Kathy Sirico leads this 10-week overview of acrylic painting materials and processes, including color mixing, surfaces, and media. Students can also explore other water-based media, such as watercolor, ink, or gouache. No pre-requisites needed for this fundamental and fun course. $480 (Meets in Studio 26, SFAI | Fort Mason Campus.)

The Exploded Figure. Thursdays, June 14, 2018 to August 16, 2018, 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Inspired by dreams and psychology, painter Felicita Norris encourages students to experiment with composition and intense cropping while working on figure painting with a live model. Some painting and drawing experience recommended. $480 (Meets in Studio 27, SFAI | Fort Mason Campus.)

Painting In Time. Tuesdays, July 3, 2018 to August 7, 2018, 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Painter, photographer, sculptor, and collage and digital artist Tom Colcord invites participants to contemplate and depict the fourth dimension by conveying duration, immediacy, and the element of time through short exercises and a final painting project. Personal Mythology In Painting: Weekend Workshop. Friday to Sunday, August 3-5, 2018, 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Iranian-born multimedia artist Soraya Sharghi helps students discover, shape, and express personal mythologies by completing three projects in this themed painting course.
