San Francisco Art Institute Summer Graduate Lecture Series

Presented By

San Francisco Art Institute | Fort Mason Campus

Through Jul 15th

The San Francisco Art Institute | Fort Mason campus presents a fascinating, free graduate lecture series in the Scully Gray Box Gallery on Pier 2 at Fort Mason Center for Arts & Culture. The lecture series features artists who have graduated from or exhibited at the San Francisco Art Institute (SFAI), as well as other prestigious institutions.

The first lecture features Lordy Rodriguez, who discusses “Lie Lines” on Monday, June 17, 2019, from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Rodriguez works with maps as visual languages and information tools. He reflects on how much trust we put into maps and information systems in general. (RSVP online)

Social sculptor and activist Joyce Burstein follows with a lecture on Monday, July 1, 2019, 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., discussing her progress with “The Epitaph Project.” Burstein has developed public projects that invite participants to explore permanence and the ephemeral. She has used tombstones and funerary monuments to challenge how these memorials are too often only associated with death and history by transforming them into interactive works about life and the present. (RSVP online)

The third lecture on Monday, July 15, 2019, from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. presents drawing, photography and installation artist Sadie Barnette commenting on “From Here.” Barnette excels at material interventions and conceptual explorations of West Coast vernacular. She incorporates family histories, a reclaimed FBI file, glitter, found objects, and antiquated technologies into her work. (RSVP online)
