“I wish we could all get along like we used to in middle school … I wish I could bake a cake filled with rainbows and smiles and everyone would eat and be happy.”

Mean Girls

About: Tina Fey’s script finds teenager Cady Heron (Lindsay Lohan) enrolling in North Shore High School after years of homeschooling abroad by her zoologist parents. Cady’s attempts to make friends run into the hard hierarchies of the suburban American high school and the “mean girls” who make up “the Plastics:” the most powerful clique in Evanston, Illinois. The story draws on Rosalind Wiseman’s 2002 book Queen Bees and Wannabes, an assessment of the toxic environments that cool kids create. Lohan read for Queen Bee Regina George (Rachel McAdams) but worried the character would bruise her reputation. Mean Girls launched as a major Broadway musical in 2018 that is now in the queue for a film adaptation itself!
