For Summer 2017, the San Francisco Children’s Art Center (SFCAC) at Fort Mason Center for Arts & Culture has nine Big Kids Afternoon Weekly Workshops (ages six years through 10 years old) to inspire creating, collaborating, and sharing through visual arts.

Each week (Monday-Friday, 1:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.) offers wide-ranging explorations of different ideas and materials to inspire art-making. “Architectural Sculpture” (July 17-21), “Art & Science” (July 24-28), “Art In the Garden” (June 12-16), “Clay Time” (June 19-23), “Land, Sea, and City” (June 26-30), “Observational Drawing” (July 3 and July 5-7) “Painting & Drawing” (June 5-9), “Photo Explorers” (July 10-14), and “Sculpture” (August 21-25) workshops (five four-hour classes per week, $310) offer deep investigations of the challenges and choices found in two- and three-dimensional forms.

The weekly classes for younger kids (22 months to 5 years) meet on weekday and Saturday mornings and provide age-appropriate art instruction and activities through “Art Studio I” (ages three years to five years old, Monday & Wednesday, 9:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., and Saturday, 10:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., 1.5-hour classes, $320), “Art Studio II” (ages three and a half years old to five years old, Tuesday, 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., two-hour classes, $330, no class July 4), “Little Art Makers” (ages 27 months to 36 months old; Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday, 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.; Tuesday, 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m., one-hour classes, $240), and “Side By Side” (ages 22 months to 36 months old; Thursday and Friday, 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., Saturday, 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m.; one-hour classes, $240, for children and adult caregivers).

Also available are two half- or full-day mini-camps held with Young Performers Theatre (YPT) for children ages six to 10 years old. Scheduled for Monday through Friday, August 7 through 11 and August 14 through 18, the Mini-Camps offer morning “Performance Workshops” at YPT from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., a supervised lunch break from 12:30 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. (students bring their own lunches), and an art studio session at SFCAC from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. (“Puppet Theater” August 7 through 11 or “Land, Sea, and City” August 14 through 18). The mini-camps cost $240 for mornings only, $310 for afternoons only, or $525 for the full-day sessions.

Prices vary per class and drop-ins for individual class sessions are welcome (one-hour classes $30, 1.5-hour classes $35, two-hour classes $45, three-hour workshop $60, and four-hour workshop $80). Drop-ins are only available for SFCAC’s afternoon portion of the mini-camps as children must enroll for the complete five-day YPT mini-camp.
