Summer Improv Festival

Presented By

BATS Improv

Through Aug 27th

BATS Improv’s Summer Improv Festival at Fort Mason Center for Arts & Culture offers original improv performances with unique themes and challenges.

The “Friday Night Theatresports” grand finale is BATS’ annual grudge match against Los Angeles Impro Theatre on Friday, August 5, 8:00 p.m. The special, one-night-only edition of “Spontaneous Broadway” (Saturday, August 6, 8:00 p.m.) also features the talents of Los Angeles Improv Theatre performers, while they are still in town after the Friday night “SF vs. LA Theatresports” grudge match.

Audience participation steps it up with “Snapshot. Your Pictures. Out Stories.” on Friday and Saturday, August 12 and 13 at 8:00 p.m. Each scene starts with a new photograph from an audience member. “Always Be Closing: Improvised David Mamet Stage Play” takes on the distinctive styles and themes of America’s popular playwright on Friday and Saturday, August 19 and 20, 8:00 p.m.

The mostly female cast of “The Bechdel Test: Women in Improv” (Friday and Saturday, August 26 and 27, 8:00 p.m.) challenges Hollywood tendencies to have female characters mainly concerned with “women’s issues” in a cinematic long-form performance.
