The Black Feminist Guide To The Human Body
Lorraine Hansberry Theatre & Magic Theatre
Through Oct 6thLorraine Hansberry Theatre (LHT) presents The Black Feminist Guide To The Human Body at Magic Theatre in Building D, Third Floor at Fort Mason Center For Arts & Culture. Written by Lisa B. Thompson, Black Feminist Guide is directed by Margo Hall, LHF’s Artistic Director.
A daring celebration of life and the resilience of Black women, The Black Feminist Guide To The Human Body marks Lisa B. Thompson’s triumphant return to the San Francisco Bay Area in a rolling world premiere celebrating the joys and challenges of growing older and wiser.
This acclaimed new work follows an older Black woman professor encountering herself as she moves through time and memory to explore and honor the uniqueness of Black womanhood.
Black scholars, mothers, and leaders have given everything for their communities, having spent decades doing CPR on the nation, and have left too little for themselves. Black Feminist Guide offers validation, self-love and a collective exhale by centering the voices and lived experiences of Black women: past and present. Thompson’s new work is not only a joyous, raucous, spiritual event, but it is a love letter to Black women and their families — knowing that in spite of it all, they are still here.
Black Feminist Guide performances happen at Magic Theatre, September 19, 2024 to October 6, 2024, Thursday to Saturday, 8:00 p.m. to 9:15 p.m.; and Saturday and Sunday at 4:00 p.m. to 5:15 p.m. Ticket prices are $25 to $65 (plus a $2 fee).
