Trio Pizzicato Concert: Songs of Italian Immigrants

Presented By

Museo Italo Americano

Apr 30th @ 4:30 p.m.

Trio Pizzicato returns to Museo Italo Americano at Fort Mason Center for Arts & Culture for an evening of Italian folk songs expressing the sorrow, longing, and joy of the immigrant experience. The trip also plays mandolin and guitar instrumentals that were composed and played by Italian immigrants to the U.S.

Millions of Italians left their homes to re-settle elsewhere in Europe and North and South America. A short talk before the concert discusses the histories of these settlers and the music they created and listened to on their long journeys to new homes.

Trio Pizzicato features Kathy Sherak on mandolin and vocals, Martha Hawthorne on guitar and vocals, and Bill Foss on mandolin and vocals. Hawthorne and Foss also perform in Duo Pizzicato with a repertoire of traditional Italian songs including energetic polkas, evocative waltzes, sensual mazurkas, wild tarantellas, and beautiful vocal harmonies.
