Venice In The Time Of Casanova

Presented By

Museo Italo Americano

May 20th @ 4:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.

Travel to 18th-century Venice during the time of Giacomo Casanova and extreme licentiousness with Professor Bruce Elliott and Museo Italo Americano at Fort Mason Center for Arts & Culture. Elliott presents “Venice In The Time of Casanova,” using the famed seducer as a guide to the city that gave him the perfect setting for amorous adventures.

Casanova exemplifies the decadent spirit of Venice, which during his time celebrated the masked intrigue of the Carnevale festival for five months every year. Elliott evokes that seductive era with the music of Vivaldi, and art by Tiepolo, Canaletto, Guardi, and Pietro Longhi. This event takes place in conjunction with the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco’s exhibit, “Casanova: The Seduction Of Europe” at the Palace of the Legion of Honor. A light reception follows the lecture.
