FLAX Art + Design Store & Zip Lehnus

Sep 22nd @ 12:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.

Join local artist and art entrepreneur Zip Lehnus at FLAX art + design Store for the expanded, two-part version of the fun and active outdoor workshop, “Zen & The Art of Urban Sketching, (Parts 1 & 2)” at Fort Mason Center for Arts & Culture. Lehnus is a science writer and avid sketcher whose subjects reflect his science and nature interests.

Lehnus has a gallery on Instagram and he also founded and operates a boutique artist’s charcoal company, Big Stick Charcoal. The workshops begin at FLAX, where participants pick up their urban sketching kit(s) (included in the admission fee[s]), go over basic urban sketching techniques, and set off to discover beautiful outdoor settings perfect for urban sketching.

The latest $55 workshop, “You Can Do This!” happens on an upcoming Sunday TBD, 12:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m., and includes everything needed to jump-start a passion for urban sketching (more than $40.00 worth of items). Materials included are: the Sakura Coi Watercolor Pocket Set (a $22.52 value), the Strathmore Vision Mixed Media Pad ($6.47 value), the Tombow Fudenosuke Brush Pen Set ($6.98), a Uni-Ball Gel Impact Pen in Coconut White (~$2.00), a Palomino Blackwing Pencil (~$2.00), a General Pencil Extra-Soft White Vinyl Eraser ($1.09), and a KUM Magnesium Wedge Sharpener (~$1.45).

The $40 follow-up workshop, “Perspective, Light & Shadow,” occurs on Sunday, September 22, 2019, 12:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m., and provides more tips about visual cues, light sources, and how to use shadows, light, and other powerful elements to reveal more drawing details. The Part 2 workshop includes more art supplies, too.
