The Arion Press Gallery also features a display of the craft and historic materials used to create their upcoming artist book, DECLARE: A Civic Gospel.

Celebrate the release of Arion’s upcoming DECLARE book with panel discussion featuring President and CEO of Thomas Jefferson’s Monticello, Jane Kamensky. Learn about a vibrant program highlighting the making of the book, this exciting partnership with Monticello, and the importance of craft in shaping the Declaration Of Independence. Hear from the craftspeople whose handwork built the edition, including artist Jonathan Anzalone, and Arion Press team members John DeMerritt, Brian Ferrett, Megan Gibes, and Jocelyn Lee.

Printed by letterpress and hand-assembled and bound at Arion Press in San Francisco, DECLARE: A Civic Gospel embodies the craft and collaboration that founded American democracy.

Brian Ferrett has a printing degree from MATC and previously worked in offset web and screen printing. Ferrett has worked with M&H Type since 2008 when he began his apprenticeship under Lewis Mitchell. These days he manages M&H’s daily operations, maintains the historic casting machines and presses, and works the presses as needed. Ferritt is a member of the Northern California chapter of the American Printing History Association, the American Typecaster Fellowship, and volunteers with San Francisco Public Library’s annual Valentine’s Day broadside event.

Jocelyn Lee is a bookbinder at Arion Press and printmaker in her free time.
