Join local artist Zip Lehnus at FLAX Art & Design Store for in-person, outdoor workshops, “Zen + The Art of Urban Sketching,” at Fort Mason Center for Arts & Culture. Lehnus is a science writer, naturalist, urban artist, and avid sketcher whose subjects reflect his science and nature interests. Lehnus has a gallery on Instagram.

The workshop begins at FLAX in Building D, where participants pick up their urban sketching kit (included in the $75 class fee), go over basic urban sketching techniques, and set off to discover beautiful outdoor settings perfect for urban sketching.

The $75 workshop happens on Saturday, October 18, 2025; from 12:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m., and includes everything needed to jump-start a passion for urban sketching (more than $57 worth of items).

Materials included are: the Sakura Koi Watercolor Pocket Set (a $27.95 value), the Strathmore Vision Mixed Media Pad ($10.75 value), three Sakura Pigma Micron Pens (0.45 mm tip) in black, orange, and purple (an $8.97 value), a Uni-Ball Gel Impact Pen in Coconut White (a $3.95 value), a Palomino Blackwing Pencil (matte, soft, $2.50), a General Pencil Extra-Soft White Vinyl Eraser ($1.25), and a Magnesium Wedge Sharpener ($1.75).
