Brian Eno’s Apollo Album Listening Event At The Interval
The Interval At Long Now
Through Jul 31stThe Long Now Foundation hosts a musical celebration of the 50th anniversary of the 1969 Apollo 11 lunar landing with four events in The Interval at Fort Mason Center For Arts & Culture. These events offer listening parties featuring Long Now’s co-founder Brian Eno‘s 2019 remastered and expanded version of his 1983 album, Apollo: Atmospheres & Soundtracks Extended Edition. The new release includes For All Mankind, 11 new instrumental compositions that re-imagine the original Apollo soundtrack Eno composed that was used in Al Reinert’s landmark feature-length documentary, For All Mankind (1989). Many of Eno’s iconic Apollo tracks have been used for movies and ceremonies worldwide.
The listening parties also provide introductory insights, footage from Apollo missions, and a special mini-menu of cocktails inspired by the album and the historic lunar landing. During the 50-minute runtime of the remastered album (starting at 9:30 p.m.), Long Now and The Interval request that participants remain silent to allow for full audience immersion in the soundscapes, imagery, and commemoration of humanity’s momentous achievement. Notecards and pens are available to order at the bar and share notes and observations. At 10:30 p.m., quiet conversations may resume while Long Now plays the second part of the extended re-issue.
