The San Francisco Tribal & Textile Art Show at Fort Mason Center for Arts & Culture is the leading arts fair showcasing the work of tribal cultures and indigenous peoples of the Americas, Asia, Oceania, Indonesia, the Middle East, and Africa. More than 80 national and international galleries display museum-quality objects and artifacts in exotic settings perfect for browsing by tribal art collectors and enthusiasts.

The special exhibits for 2017 are: “Indonesian Textile Treasures, A Living Legacy,” which features more than 100 textile pieces, from rare historical artifacts to contemporary work; “Spirit Talkers: Paintings by James Havard;” and “Artful Weavings.” Bay Area ensemble Gamelan Sekar Jaya performs Balinese music during the exhibit, which also offers demonstrations of back-strap loom ikat weaving, batik dying, and Indonesian cuisine. The Friends of Ethnic Art group presents a lecture and panel discussion, “Revealing Indonesian Aesthetics: A Context of Understanding … and what makes a great piece?” on Sunday, February 12, 10:00 a.m.

The San Francisco Tribal & Textile Arts show hosts an opening night gala on Thursday, February 9, 5:00-9:00 p.m., featuring live music, mingling opportunities, global cuisine, and unique libations. Tickets are available online and at the door ($500 to $1,500) and proceeds benefit the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco (the de Young Museum and the Legion of Honor).
