Before it is spirited away, TAC members and the public have a chance to see it up close and meet the designers in the unique Store House space at FMCAC.
This Oakland, CA-based fashion label, founded by Stephanie Verrieres and Kimie Sako in 2008, has been making waves with their innovative approach to design. They have coined the term “cutting-edge basic” to describe their day-to-evening wardrobe collections that feature luxurious techniques, detailing, and silhouettes typically found in high-end fashion translated into effortless, wearable pieces.
Join the designers and fashion lovers for an exclusive behind-the-scenes display of some of Verrieres & Sako’s meticulously created ready-to-wear costume designs and evening gowns; including the one headed for the FAMSF. Discover the inspiration behind these creations and the stories they hold. The designers discuss their fabric manipulation techniques for creating the striking three-dimensional designs they are known for. Verrieres and Sako trace their path from pattern to production, the hurdles of sourcing unique textiles, and overcoming challenges producing high-end fashion.
The introduction is presented by Laura Camerlengo, curator in charge of Costume and Textile Arts at the FAMSF. The discussion is moderated by Zoe Hong, fashion designer, illustrator, and teacher.
Following the presentation there is a brief reception to meet Stephanie Verrieres and Kimie Sako and learn more about their work.
TAC and FAMSF are particularly grateful to FMCAC for making this event so special.
Ticket prices are $30 for TAC members and $35 for the public. (Purchase tickets in advance.)
