Fool For Love
Magic Theatre
Through Mar 5thMagic Theatre presents a legacy revival of Sam Shepard’s acclaimed play, “Fool For Love,” at Fort Mason Center for Arts & Culture. “Fool For Love” mercilessly skewers feuding lovers in an epic showdown at a desolate motel in California’s Mojave Desert and premiered at Magic Theatre in 1983, where Shepard was playwright-in-residence. In 1984, “Fool For Love” was a Pulitzer Prize finalist and went on to win five Obie Awards. Shepard’s masterpiece has been almost continuously performed at theaters throughout the world for the past three decades.
Ed Harris originally played Eddie, the rodeo stunt man, a role that Shepard wrote just for him. Shepard played Eddie in the 1985 Fool For Love movie, directed by Robert Altman. Shepard directed the 1983 premiere of his play and Magic’s Artistic Director Loretta Greco directs this revival.
