Magic Theatre & Campo Santo: Otto Frank
Magic Theatre & Campo Santo
Through Mar 27thMagic Theatre’s 2022 continues in March with resident performance group Campo Santo’s Otto Frank at Fort Mason Center for Arts & Culture. Berkeley, CA actor Roger Guenveur Smith wrote and stars in this solo show inspired by Anne Frank’s father. Marc Anthony Thompson (founder of the Chocolate Genius music collective) composed and performs the live musical score.
According to Magic Theatre, Otto Frank is an intimate meditation on our current moment which interrogates our not-so-distant past. Otto, the only member of his immediate family to survive the Nazi death camps, addresses his daughter beyond her time and his own, navigating loss, adolescent ambition, the denial of the diary’s authenticity, and of the Holocaust itself. Smith and Thompson have devised poetic and sonically driven work that illuminates the Franks’ tragedy and triumph in a new and necessary light.
Otto Frank runs from March 12, 2022 through March 27, 2022, Saturdays at 8:00 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. and Sundays at 3:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.
