Museo Italo Americano — BRAVO: Celebrating San Francisco Opera — Its Italian Roots & Legacy
Museo Italo Americano
Museo Italo Americano presents “BRAVO: Celebrating San Francisco Opera — Its Italian Roots & Legacy,” an exhibit that takes visitors on an operatic journey, at Fort Mason Center For Arts & Culture.
The “BRAVO” exhibit begins with the decades around the Gold Rush and continues on to the period prior to the formation of the opera company. “BRAVO” traces San Francisco (SF) Opera’s growth until it became the second largest opera company in the US.
Viewers learn the stories of the Italian American financiers of the SF Opera and of Neapolitan conductor Gaetano Merola — the company’s founder and first director — and his legacy. Stories are told through various media platforms: didactic panels, photographs, memorabilia, music and video content, and a QR code system that helps visitors quickly and easily pull up extended information about the exhibit.
Audiences are encouraged to bring smartphones and earphones for more immersive experiences.
Museo hours are Tuesday through Saturday, 12:00 p.m. (Noon) to 4:00 p.m. and Sunday, 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. The exhibit is on view Friday, April 21, 2023 through Sunday, October 29, 2023. (Closed on major holidays.)
