APRIL 18, 2023 THROUGH APRIL 20, 2023.
Join Artistic License, A Guild Of Artisans, Inc. for the 27th International Decorative Painters Salon San Francisco (SF) 2023 in Gallery 308, Building A, at Fort Mason Center For Arts & Culture (FMCAC). Salon SF 2023 gathers painters from more then 25 countries to share their work and techniques in this exhibition and live-painting event.
Participants of Salon SF 2023 include independent artisans, master technicians, and teachers; including finishers, restoration artisans, sign painters, scenic artists, gilders, and muralists. Salon SF 2023 showcases many of the unique traditions of decorative painting, which are shared among the participants, and ultimately, passed onto their students and apprentices, inspiring future generations of skilled artisans.
The Salon SF 2023 schedule highlights exhibit and painting demonstrations in Gallery 308 and mural painting in FMCAC’s Building C lobby (in conjunction with the FORT MASON ART program).
For 2023, the Salon artists paint two wall murals in the lobby of FMCAC’s Landmark Building C, inspired by the “Nature and Culture of San Francisco.” One mural features a landscape mural of the bluffs and shoreline of San Francisco Bay with native plants: coastal live oaks, bluff scrub, yerba buena, and other species that thrive in the shallow waters and dunes of the Bay shores. Adjacent to this work is a wall painted in the ornamental patterns of the 1850s, referencing the California Gold Rush that spurred the Victorian-era development of San Francisco. The mural painting is free to view.
Salon 2023 is hosted by San Francisco decorative artist Lynne Rutter, who has enlisted the help of muralist Pascal Amblard (Domancy, France) and decorative painter Friederike Schulz (Hamburg, Germany) to lead the collaborative effort by artisans from more than a dozen different countries.
