Sofie Ramos: Space To Breathe Opening Reception

Presented By

Fort Mason Center For Arts & Culture

Aug 10th @ 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

THIS RECEPTION HAPPENED ON AUGUST 10, 2018.

Fort Mason Center for Arts & Culture (FMCAC) invited the public to an opening reception for Space To Breathe, a new commission by local multimedia artist Sofie Ramos. In her new commission for FMCAC, Sofie Ramos inhabited three entry sites to the FMCAC campus: the 1926 Guardhouse, the power transformer, and the driveway separating the two.

Ramos’ fantastical installations suggested a painting expanding into space and often engulfing the viewers. Her playful use of vibrant color and exaggerated shape transformed everyday objects and interiors into their extroverted and dream-like cousins.

The reception featured two activations of Ramos’ work. Starting at 7:00 p.m., Moving In was a collaborative, inaugural performance choreographed and performed by Rachael Cleveland and Ensemble. Moving In performers included Armineh Astanbous, Pauline Canteneur, Rachael Cleveland, Emma Lanier, and Niklas Lollo. Fumigator by Lacey Johnson and Dorothy Wang closed out the hour. Both pieces used the Guardhouse as a focal point.

Participants celebrated the opening of Ramos’ installation, and enjoyed the offerings of Off the Grid, Radhaus, The Interval, and more.
