FORT MASON FLIX: Frida
Fort Mason Center for Arts & Culture
Nov 1st @ 9:00pm“I had two big accidents in my life Diego, the trolley and you. You are by far the worse.”
Frida
About: Adapted from Hayden Herrera’s definitive biography of Frida Kahlo, Julie Taymor’s biopic of the visionary artist often moves from still painting to moving image in depicting Kahlo’s epic life. Selma Hayek depicts the artist’s young adult entry into art and anguish after a horrific bus accident; her tumultuous relationship with Diego Rivera (Molina); and her affairs both personal and political. Hayek earned an Oscar nomination for her portrayal, one in which we see the artist as a progressive woman unafraid to explore highly vulnerable subject matter, revolutionary politics, and queer sexualities.
