FORT MASON FLIX: Pi

“If we’re built from Spirals while living in a giant Spiral, then is it possible that everything we put our hands to is infused with the Spiral?”
About: Celebrate Pi Day with Pi, Darren Aronofsky’s acclaimed first film about a troubled mathematician who achieves a mystical breakthrough in the world of enigmatic numbers. Sean Gullettte plays Max Cohen, an unemployed number theorist suffering from severe cluster headaches, paranoia, hallucinations, and schizoid personality disorder. Despite these issues, and the fact that he has few friends and lives in a depressing squat in Manhattan’s Chinatown, Max programs his computer, Euclid, hoping to catch some stock market predictions.
Euclid spits out a mystifying 216-digit number and crashes, infuriating Max. However, the strange number leads to revelations about codes from God, secret Kabbalic patterns in the Jewish sacred text The Torah, and clairvoyance for Max. All this arcane knowledge intensifies his headaches and causes a vein in his temple to bulge ominously. When sinister Wall Street agents give Max a top-secret computer chip, all hell breaks loose in the world of finances and math.
