FORT MASON FLIX: The Hunger
Fort Mason Center for Arts & Culture
Oct 23rd @ 9:00pm“Are you making a pass at me, Mrs. Blaylock?”
The Hunger
About: From its stylized opening sequence set to Bauhaus’ gothic anthem “Bela Lugosi’s Dead” to its multi-storied Manhattan townhouse setting, Tony Scott’s adaptation of Whitley Strieber’s novel builds vampiric glamour around its central couple: John (Bowie) and Miriam (Deneuve) Blaylock. Flashbacks reveal Miriam’s origins in classical Egypt, with John the latest in an unbroken line of long-lived lovers who do, eventually, age rapidly and fail. Miriam’s search for a cure leads her to Dr. Sarah Roberts (Sarandon), a scientist looking to turn back the body’s internal clock, and two paths to immortality collide. With short if indelible appearances by Ann Magnuson and Willem Dafoe.
