Embark Gallery presents a juried exhibit that examines the concepts of identity and portraiture; expanding on the idea of identity to include forms surrounding personal, familial, cultural, political, and other ways in which identity is expressed.

“Encounters” features work by 11 artists from eight San Francisco Bay Area institutions: Jamee Crusan (California College of the Arts, CCA), Dan Fenstermacher (Sn Jose State University, SJSU), Ninh Filip (SJSU), Simona Fitcal (Stanford University), Willow Griffiths (San Francisco Art Institute, SFAI), Victoria Maidhof (SFAI), Juan Pablo Pacheco (SFAI), Lauren Ross (CCA), Hui Meng Wang (SFAI), Leila Weefur (Mills College), and Sarah Woodard (San Francisco State University).

Embark’s opening reception is Friday, March 18, 2016, 5:00-9:00 p.m.
