The Mexican Museum, the Mexican Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the Consulate General of Mexico in San Francisco present the textural work of Mexican artist Paloma Torres at Fort Mason Center for Arts & Culture. Torres uses abstract ceramic sculptures and handmade textiles superimposed on aerial photographs of Mexico City for her visually provocative collection of work in her “Tramas Urbanas (Urban Patterns)” exhibit at The Mexican Museum.

“Tramas Urbanas (Urban Patterns)” captures a new reality for today’s sprawling urban environments through its abstraction of irregular settlements surrounding Mexico City. In her work, Torres uses recycled materials, traditional dyes from pre-Hispanic cultures, and natural fibers from many different world regions. Combining all these elements with discarded textiles and building materials conveys how humanity advances through societal diversity and the intersection of communities ancient and modern.

The opening reception with the artist takes place Friday, March 24, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
