FOR-SITE Foundation invites everyone to a panel discussion, “Above The Rug: Approaching The Rug As A Critical Form,” in the Chapel in Upper Fort Mason at Fort Mason Center for Arts & Culture. “Above The Rug” features four expert panelists discussing the nuances of rugs as related to FOR-SITE’s “Sanctuary” exhibit.

Moderated by Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco’s Curator of Costume and Textile Arts Jill D’Alessandro, the discussion explores the history and significance of rugs in art and sacred spaces, including their symbolism, patterns, materials, and how they reveal deeply personal narratives. The panelists include: artist and educator Ala Ebtekar, contemporary artist Sanaz Mazinini, gender and women’s studies professor Minoo Moallem, and textile journalist Malin Lonnberg.
