Home | Maker: Reactions to Definement
Embark Gallery
Embark Gallery presents “Home | Maker: Reactions to Definement,” featuring the sculptures of Ryan Carrington and Lynn Dau, at Fort Mason Center for Arts & Culture. “Home | Maker” is Embark’s second annual “Spotlight” exhibit, and is part of a series that focuses on artists working with complementary themes and aesthetics.
Carrington’s and Dau’s work investigates traditional gender roles through artistic labor, humor, and surreal presentations. Carrington looks at labor through materials such as brick, wood, and metal plucked from the Home Depot shelves and re-assembled into whimsical forms. Dau forges household items such as nails, metal sinks, utensils, and more into twisted, cataclysmic sculptures expressing domesticity gone awry, frustration, shattered dreams, and powerful underlying emotions.
The opening reception takes place on Saturday, June 16, 2018, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
