What Is the Scandal?
Eliana Lopez, wife of former San Francisco Sheriff Ross Mirkarimi, joins 3 Lopez Productions to reprise her acclaimed one-woman autobiographical show, “What Is The Scandal?” “Scandal” has been on a national and local tour with many sold-out shows since opening in 2015.
Eliana Lopez explores what it means to be a recent female immigrant to the U.S. She portrays the damage her family suffered when a political scandal engulfed them shortly after her husband was elected sheriff. Lopez demonstrates how language barriers, immigration status, and racial bias affect her and her family as they struggle to remain intact. Her moving and often humorous storytelling chronicles the internal journeys that immigrants make through adaptation, integration, and self-transformation, while also contending with external challenges such as the U.S. legal system.
These performances by Eliana Lopez are hosted by Fort Mason Center for Arts & Culture (FMCAC) as part of the San Francisco International Arts Festival, which runs from May 19 – June 5 exclusively at FMCAC. The Festival features more than 100 performances by 50 different ensembles, as well as an expansive arts exhibition celebrating 100 years of the Dada Movement.
