About: Prince was already a celebrated recording star when he stepped into the role of The Kid, an ambitious and uncompromising musician who falls for an equally ambitious musician played by Apollonia. Tension with his band The Revolution is further strained by competition with another house band, The Time. The film’s darker tones reveal a character – a mythic version of Prince at that time – marred by a dysfunctional home life and the temptation to repeat the ills of the family. The film still reigns high in the pantheon of Prince’s cinematic performances and in his music catalog.
