Neighbors Exhibit
Embark Gallery
Through Oct 28thEmbark Gallery presents “Neighbors,” an exhibit that explores global cultural experiences, at Fort Mason Center for Arts & Culture. “Neighbors” reflects the increasing influence that digital technology and instant information sharing have on creative expression. As a cultural institution that showcases the work of local art students and recent art school graduates, Embark Gallery also seeks to display work from the many international and multi-national students studying at San Francisco Bay Area art schools.
The “Neighbors” exhibit also hopes to elevate the current conversations circulating around the Trump administration’s stance on immigration, as demonstrated by anti-immigrant executive orders and U.S.-centric policies. Show themes include globalization, hybrid cultures, belonging to more than one place at a time, ancestry, ethnicity, religion, refugees, migration, war, politics, and displacement.
The exhibiting artists are: Christopher Marin (California College of the Arts, CCA); Amy Nathan (Mills College); Shari Paladino (University of California (UC) — Berkeley); and Keyvan Shovir (CCA).
The opening reception takes place on Friday, September 22, 2017, from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
