The Grand Central Art Center, KCET-TV, and Single Cel LLC present a complete screening of the award-winning “Vireo: The Spiritual Biography of a Witch’s Accuser” at Fort Mason Center for Arts & Culture. “Vireo” is the first opera created specifically for episodic broadcast and streaming media. Lisa Bielawa conceived and composed “Vireo,” while Erik Ehn wrote the libretto and Charles Otte directs.

Soprano Rowen Sabala performs the title character, a teenage girl visionary. Vireo and the audience travel to many locales, including Alcatraz Island, a Hudson River monastery, a studio in downtown Los Angeles, the California redwoods, and an abandoned train station in Oakland, CA.

“Vireo” features multi-faceted orchestration contributed by world-class musicians and vocalists, including Kronos Quartet, violinist Jennifer Koh, the San Francisco Girls Chorus, cellist Joshua Roman, Alarm Will Sound, the PRISM Quartet saxophone ensemble, the American Contemporary Music Ensemble (ACME), Magik*Magik Orchestra, Cappella SF, and soprano Deborah Voigt, as well as many others.
